Repair as care and connection

Repair is a way of showing care for yourself and your belongings. It isn’t just about fixing holes in clothes. It’s about looking after what we already have and making it last. My family has always taken care of their stuff and I try to carry that forward. Mending, patching, taking a bit of time to look after something feels like a way of passing on the care I got and giving it forward. It’s kind of my love language.

There’s a real joy in bringing a top or a pair of jeans back to life. It isn’t just the clothes that get saved, it’s the thought and attention behind them. Every stitch has a bit of care in it and a bit of history. Seeing a favourite piece that’s been stitched and worn and continues to be part of your wardrobe feels really satisfying.

Repairing things is a personal pushback against all the throwaway culture around us. So much could be kept if we just slowed down a bit, paid attention and took a little care. That small effort matters not just for the clothes but for the planet and for the little bit of satisfaction it gives us. Repairing isn’t only practical, it’s also a way of connecting and keeping something we love alive.
